Oral microbiome qPCR test to assess your oral microbiome
available in Central HK
Dr. Titania Tong
is proud to offer a revolutionary new test, the oral microbiome qPCR test, to patients in the Central, HK area. This test evaluates your unique oral microbiome, which is a key component in your overall health and well-being.
What is the oral microbiome?
The human “oral microbiome” is the collection of microorganisms in the oral cavity, which can vary greatly from person to person. Like other parts of the body, the bacteria in the mouth can play a positive or negative role in your oral health. Emerging research over the last few decades has shown that there is also an important link between the oral microbiome and the health of the rest of the body.
How is the oral microbiome involved in tooth decay and oral health?
When there is an imbalance in your oral microbiome, the bacteria in your mouth can produce acids that damage your tooth enamel, leading to tooth decay. Additionally, certain bacterial pathogens in the mouth are known to lead to gum disease, a progressive oral health problem.
Can oral bacteria affect the gut microbiome and overall health and wellness?
Yes! The oral bacteria in your mouth can spread to the rest of the body and are associated with a number of systemic health issues. Since the mouth is the beginning of the digestive system, oral bacteria can affect the gut and have also been linked to diseases such as cancer, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, female reproductive issues, and more. Additionally, bacteria associated with periodontal disease have been associated with adverse outcomes in pregnancy.
