Hong Kong dentist explains the uses for ozone therapy

Ozone Therapy Hong Kong Treat Cavity

As a holistic dentist, Dr. Titania Tong is committed to using healthy and biologically integrated treatments in her Hong Kong practice. Recent research has unveiled many new technologies and procedures that give patients the most effective dental care possible and ensure the health of their bodies. A recent advancement is the use of ozone therapy in dental procedures. This therapy uses medical-grade oxygen, processed to produce O3, a form of oxygen that can be used in both liquid and gas forms.

Ozone therapy counters bacteria by destroying harmful cells. It’s been proven to improve patient outcomes with no discomfort for the patient. There are several ways that ozone therapy is used in the dental practice, including:

  • Gum disease: Many people first notice gum disease when they see blood in the sink while brushing or notice sore and inflamed gums. When caught early, gum disease can be treated quickly with better dental care habits. However, if it progresses, it can cause damaging problems including receding gums, loose teeth, or even loss of teeth. Using ozone in the liquid form, dentists can flush the bacteria from below the gum line and improve the health of the patient’s gums.
  • Tooth decay: Cavities are a common dental problem. Caused by food and beverage particles that remain on the teeth, the bacteria forms plaque that combines with acid and begins to damage the enamel. Typically, decay requires a filling. However, ozone can be used in certain circumstances to kill  bacteria and reverse the decaying process. This eliminates the need for a filling.  In this instance, ozone is used in the gas form, so that it can reach all areas of the mouth.
